Straight up, I'm not a fan of drives with Phison controllers. I've seen too many articles in which these drives tend to slow down after a few weeks of normal every day use. It's one of the reasons why I went with Samsung in the first place as my primary drive.

Anyways.. I'm on the fence with it. I'd rather have the speed of NVMe, but the cost is just too high. That leads me right back to a cheaper but slower NVMe (which I'm fine with), or SATA, which is only a couple hundred less, but I can pick up a Samsung SATA drive that is reliable.

If you go SATA, I'd like to recommend Crucial, they are legendary when it comes to reliability, all my SATA SSDs have been Crucial in the past and not-a-one failed on me, or slowed down, good to get like a 4TB or larger and just dump all the games and apps that don't need crazy speed on them.

Well, I have a few different brands of SATA ones and only 3 different brands of m.2.
If I was going for a reliable SATA drive, my first choice would be a Samsung drive, not that I have any bad experience with any SSD for the last 7 years I use SSDs.

Samsung SATA drives are probably the best, only problem being they command a premium.

Another company we surprisingly have not mentioned for both SATA and m.2 is Western Digital, they're drives are excellent. I have a m.2 Western Digital Black.

I remember Western Digital drives of old were not that reliable, but nowadays their drives are pretty darn good. Currently I have a Western Digital mechanical drive and a m.2 one.

I've 7/9 WD ssd that shit the bed.... so my faith in them is equally terrible compared to adata.

Considering i can now get the 250gb 870 evo for $40 and 500gb for $75... what is the price premium?

Ah, this premium exists solely in my head, in a place of unicorns and rainbows, a place far far away where candy canes grow from the ground and people's farts smell like Swiss chocolate.

'Smells like' is an equivalence relation. If A smells like B, then B also smells like A. :p

Yeah gold ink on white stock, good thing is it's not like the black and yellow ink on white stock like the Killer Bees which gets damaged easily.
