I already have a Prolimatech MK-13. That cooler has a VRM heatsink that's compatible with the HD5870. HD6950 and HD6970 have the same PCB design so maybe the heatsink will fit on the HD6950 Then it's cooled by 4 x 120 mm fan. I also ordered a Asus GTX460 Top, just to fuck around with. I will try to post pics next week.
so I finally got a new camera, not the 7D or 1D mkIV I'd love, but a Canon 600D (Rebel T3i for those in the US) - same IQ as the 7D, wireless flash control, articulating screen, much better low-light capability than my 450D (I am, after all, a nightclub photographer) and it's small, light and cheap enough that if it f*cks up, it's not too painful to replace - got it with a 5 year warranty through my work. Pictured below with a Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 lens (my favourite) with hood attached, EP-EX15 II Eyepiece extender so I don't mash my nose on the screen, RC-6 wireless remote (pouch attaches to the neck strap) and Canon branded Crumpler "Industry Disgrace" neck strap - nice and comfy, battery grip should arrive today or tomorrow (otherwise it's too small for my hands) Look at that screen! And here is a (rather low-res, due to my sh*tty HTC phone) photo of all my camera gear - Canon Speedlight 580 EX II, Canon Speedlight 430 EX II, Canon EF 75-300mm lens, Canon EF 28-135mm (my second favourite) lens, gripped Canon EOS 400D (Rebel XTi) with 18-35mm II lens attached, gripped Canon EOS 450D (Rebel XSi [I think]) with EF 50mm f/1.8 w/ hood attached and the Canon EOS 600D as described above. Will probably be selling the 400D as a kit with the 18-55/75-300 lenses as I never use those, and I don't need two back-up cameras
I picked up another kit of OCZ Triple Channel RAM last evening. This, added to the OCZ already in my system, brings the total to 12 GB. Specs are in the list at the left....
I haven't read any reviews of the T3i yet but how well does it do video? I've been needing a DSLR replacement for a while not and have been waiting for the 7D's replacement but if the T3i is good enough maybe I'll just go the cheaper route and grab it since I hate big DSLR's like the 7D. That screen is also HUGE compared to the tiny ass 1 inch one on my 350D.
finally got it in.... took some doing. 19-22c idle, 36c load, so far. prime95 for 10 mins brings me to 38c, 100f.
Darklord, that's an interesting case. What is it? Also, because I'm too lazy to take my own photos: You have no idea how pissed I am about the T-Mobile acquisition...
its an ABS Canyon 595. a rebadged lian li x500. i really should have wiped down the case a bit before i took that picture. i didnt realize how filthy it was till the flash hit it. oh well.
I have a question: Why, exactly, did you orient that CPU cooler that way? Every air-cooled CPU cooler I've ever seen installed, and installed myself, is oriented to exhaust the air right out the back utilizing the added force of that large case fan right at the back. The way this is, it looks like it's actually restricting the airflow instead of making use of maximum airflow. ???
didnt have a choice, actually. theres a slit down the middle for the am2/3 retention bracket, and on am3s, it forces the orientation that way. on the other hand, ive heard hdt coolers work better this way. the heat pipes have more contact with the cpu, and the water in the pipes can return to its lowest area easier this way. in practice, i dont know if orientation makes any real difference. im idling at 2c (5f) above ambient, and have a max high temp of 38c (100f). that load temp is lower then a lot of cpus idle at, so i cant really complain with the results.
No, there's no reason to complain if it's working well. It just caught my eye because of the orientation.
It's the way the cooler attachments are designed...... there are exceptions, of course, but the majority seem to be that way.
The very few AMD-based systems I've worked on are oriented front to back like the Intel systems I'm more familiar with. That's why it caught my attention.
