Ok, so I know all the X8xx boards need a master board to be used in crossfire and that the X1300 and X1600 can do it with out a cable and master board via mobo with xpress 3200, but I have yet to see any master boards or info about the X1800 and X1900, I know they still require external dongles, but do they have the chip to function as master boards or what?
I already said they did. They are harder to get hold of now but you can find them if you check online.
Was just confirming. I had checked all my normal distributers and could not find anything but out of stock X1900 at the moment, so I was not sure on if the X1800 master board had actully been manufactured yet.
that crossfire only works roughly 10% of the time in a whole swack of games.... yes that's right, some games only appear to run at the performance of one card... meaning yes.... only one card actually doing the workload while the other sits idle due to driver implementations. Another clue is the fact that only one cards fan speeds up under these circumstances... (and yes, crossfire is on) Enless you only play or run one game maybe 2 that specfically have Xfire support from the get go, then you got lucky. ATM, UT2004 seems to run great... no doubts... amazing Serious Sam 2, FSAA and HDR just don't mix, Enabling both in crossfire mode = no FSAA..... disable crossfire and run the game, and kaboom, you got FSAA and HDR but at pretty damn low FPS when running at the resolutions i usually run, which would be perfectly fine if crossfire worked as the fps boost should be at least double that allowing good smooth results. It's a hunk of crap, there are so many flaws its sickning. Problems all round.
I think of crossfire as more of a upgrade solution for me at this point, I have a non master board and when I upgrade I will probably grab a master board when they get cheap, thus when I upgrade my system I will not be waisting the money I spent on my previous card.
