I am confident that AMD Opteron-servers will become very succesful - if they manage to increase the frequency to ~1.5-2.0 GHz - With a Dual Channel memory controller/CPU there shouldn't be bandwidth nor latency issues - I am looking forward to see the AMD Opteron as well as the mainstream Athlon(-64) in action (maybe review it :) ;) )...
AMD AthlonMP has surely been a succes for AMD and has been sold in large quantities for servers and workstations - and I believe that the AMD Opteron servers (based on ClawHammer DP-core) will be be sold at approximately the same price as AthlonMP - if so, AMD is going to gain a lot of marketshare from Intels Xeon-processors, because of the support of 64-bit processing.

Actually I hope that AMD in the end chooses to use a HyperTransport switch for their (>)8-way Opteron servers - there is nothing like glueless SMP =)
