They've been out for several weeks already now. So, who's got one? I'm saving my pennies up for a 7970 right now for my full system build in a little bit here.

having played with one about a month ago.... i couldn't justify it's price compared to the current 6950 switched to 6970..

however if they came out with a 4gb-6gb model for almost the same price i would definitely consider it. I am thoroughly considering moving to a 5 monitor setup.... currently running 3240x1920 or 4320x2560 constantly puts me at the 2gb vram usage cap not allowing me to dig into the FSAA settings in some of the games i've played recently with hi-res textures.

I have a lovely new XFX HD7850 thanks to HH, does that count?

So far it takes my old Geforce 560ti and takes it outside for a good chat, before kicking it in the nads for good measure, all while using a heck of a lot less power in the process. Methinks this will be a perfect Crossfire card too due to it's power credentials and overclockability too.

Sapphire was recently giving away keys to registered users (Dirt 3, BFBC2, Back to Karkand DLC, Orcs Must Die..., 100-500 keys at a time), so keep your eyes peeled if they make new giveaways. :)

It's nice to see people already getting the new cards. :) Personally, as ever with the new tech, I'm starting to feel an itch and there's a seductive little voice in my had saying: "Hey, you're working now, you can afford it, why not get a 79x0 card when the prices come down a little?!"; and then there's this other voice, likes to call himself "The Voice of Reason", saying: "That's true, but with the 6950 serving you as well as it does, you can't possibly justify a new card!" Let me tell you, that guy is a real buzz-killer.

If you had what I have now, you'd jump on a 79x0 card for sure. What you have, why bother? lol

You're absolutely right. :) I had a 4670 myself and it served me really well, especially for the money, but the 6950 arrived just as the old card started to lose breath in new titles and it's really flawless. Most likely I'll skip a generation. It's just the curiosity about the new tech, I guess. :)

The only way I'd go for it, would be if I knew I had a buyer for the current card in my machine. That way, it'd soften the blow to the wallet when buying the new card.

Otherwise, curiosity will have to remain curious.

For what it does, my HD 6950 is outstanding. Other than, as Ivan says, "curiosity", I really don't have any hankering to upgrade the video card at present.

However, I AM getting a bit hungry to do a mobo/cpu upgrade soon. Even that, though, isn't on the fast burner right now.

I moved from a 5770 (In the Warden's computer now) to a XFX 7970 about six months ago. I considered buying two and trying crossfire again. But I am not gaming as much and am not taxing the 7970 at all. I wasn't bothering the 5770 all that much either, but I do have a modern card, should the game arise.

    I have that in a FX-UD7 Gigabyte board with a FX4170 CPU. 2 X 8 Ram. 27" monitor.
    I'm loving life

Had a little difficulty downloading and installing Win Pro. I'll post about in in the OS section. All good now.
