Got my Gigabyte HD5850 OC 1GB through DHL today, straight from Gigabyte Taiwan! Unfortunately, I'll be able to install it this weekend only when I go back home...
Believe it or not, the digicam I borrowed here in our office run out of batteries! Was only able to take two shots
Hey guys. Over the weekend I played Dirt 2. I really love this game, impressive graphics! I set mine to max settings, 4x AA, 1920x1080 and get 60FPS average on XP Pro. Out of curiosity, I installed in on Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit (I can dual-boot) to see what the DX11 fuss is all about. Same settings, but I get average 30FPS. What gives? Half the performance loss for DX11 isn't worthy, in my book
Dirt 2 is quite addictive, I've never bothered to check my FPS but will so tomorrow. Though I think I've heard other people ask the same in the Steam & Codemaster's forums.
Thanks, Necrosis. Btw, I use the latest drivers (10.4 for both XP and 7). I was under the impression that the performance difference between XP and 7 is diminishing...I guess DX9 and DX11 will not make this possible.
Hope you don't mind taking a rain check on this. I had a number of thunder storms so the computer equipment is unplugged for the night.
No problem! Still have a lot of FPS games to try out on my end. Been back reading a lot of reviews at GH
Thanks. Not the best my camera's taken, but it's a $80 point and shoot from newegg, so I can't complain.
Thanks. It's a nice card. Alot bigger than I expected thou. I got waaaay to use to my 9500GT I had before.
Went from a GTX 285 2GB to a 5870 Vapor-X 1GB today and I tested out a few games plus bitstreaming hdmi audio to my Home Theater. A few thoughts after a couple of hours: -5870 runs at least 15C cooler at load with auto fan speed and silent; GTX 285 would usually artifact and lockup if I went further than 90C so it had to be at high, loud speeds. -Not sure if I got bitstreaming working, 7.1 audio is going to my receiver and I tried out Avatar on BD but it's not being received as DTS HD. 7.1 gaming did work though and I'm very impressed with ATI. No more having to rely on my X-fi optical out and DDL/DTS Connect. -So much smoother in every game. Even new games I tried was maxed out on my HDTV delivered better framerates and I swear better image quality than my Nvidia card. -CCC so much more improved since I last used a Radeon X800XL. It's been that long since I've been with ATI and I've got some catching up to do learning all the tweaks and stuff
