What about a thread ranking system instead of a person ranking system?
we can have that too, if demand is there, if you want to start a poll in off topic, ill stick it for a while naumo.
i think the ssystem is essentially a thread rankign system and you'll get the same arguement with this and stickys that people had for gold membership and personal rankings
thread ranking is nothing like "personal ranking", a thread is rated on its value, not a person. Gold membership is for a person not for a thread - so while personal rating and gold medals could be associated - thread rankings and either gold medals or personal ratings couldnt.
i doubt the demand is there for either, and I hear forum ranking has a minor performance hit on the forum software. I am not in favour of either, we have enough going on here as is.
The Tech site I go to for support for my firewall has Thread Ranking and it is used very little. I personally don't see a good use for it.
to avoid the system hit couldn't admins/mods just sticky the really good ones? wouldn't this avoid needing a rankign system?
We (staff) only sticky so many threads per forum, we can't sticky every thread that is "really good". Plus, most threads that are stickied, are stickied because we think they have very valuable infomation in them. Since staff is a small percentage of the community, thread rating would allow the mojarity of the community to judge a thread's value, although, "high ranking" threads won't be sticked automatically, nor would they necessarily be stickied by staff.
this will be very nice for news!
that's a good point dom ::goes back to his corner to think some more::
discuss this here ive also turned it on in the news forum.
