the single fan on that dual tower is plenty, so don't feel compelled to buy a 2nd fan just yet for that system, and when you mount it, make sure it's offset mounted AWAY from the video card.. not like one idiot i was dealing with that mounted it toward the video card (which also meant that the fan was blowing towards the front of the case too).
No, it's specifically in regards to the first slot just below the rear I/O bank. Noctua's NH-D15 places the mount point dead center as seen in the image, which means that the large bulk of it overhangs further down which makes it impossible to slide a video card into IF the primary pci-ex 16x slot is right at the top which nearly all asrock and many other boards generally are setup. I know of a number that put such systems together only to go "well crap, i have to run my video card into the 2nd slot" which on x570 boards generally means 8x maximum bandwidth and in some boards, specially B550, could mean limiting it to 4x through the chipset which is a VERY bad move and severely crippling performance. Alternatively, even if the first slot isn't the video card, it's often the m.2 slot, which makes removing/replacing or installing it in any means more difficult and somewhat stifles it's air supply since the heatsink would be hovering right over it and the video card VERY close to it starving it of airflow to a point. It's just IMO a good idea to go with the offset, it just provides vastly better options and makes it MUCH easier to also push the release clip for the video card as well when you wish to remove it without potentially destroying something. Look at the computer case i posted with the OFFSET version installed, it's still DAMN close to the GPU's backplate and still makes it difficult to remove the gpu, so imagine the non offset version, no way a gpu could be installed.
@Judas, Thank you , thank you, thank you!!!! Your answers brought some concerns for me, I am copying them to my longest thread and ..... will take some pictures and ask AGAIN. I am afraid I made some mistakes in my setup, fans and cooling wise, maybe not a dramatic ones but still.... would love to know what do you think.
@Calliers: Brown is so passé, man. BTW, you haven't shown us a case for us to criticize yet. 'Sup with that?
Oh, it will be the same case I use now, the Cooler Master MasterCase H500 ATX Mid-Tower case with a tempered glass side panel. I mentioned in the OP that I will be reusing certain parts from my previous build.
Yeah, you've seen it @Judas. Matter of fact, you did my cable management (for which I'm very thankful for, my rig looks really good now ), it's a sweet case indeed. I slapped another fan at the top that's the same size as the two fans in the front. It keeps things nice and cool for sure.
I sure learned one thing, front open space like mesh, no solid front and side air entrance. Did not realize how important is the flow until started having concerns about temperatures. Can not wait to see pictures of the build. Enjoy!!!
Ah, go to hell! Thank you! And you are welcome back to my place any time if you want to install these parts.... we can like braid each others hair after we're done.
As to the subject of air flow... I'm still using the XClio Wind Tunnel Case I've had now for...I forget how many years. After I got it, I installed a fan wherever one was not included. This case comes with 2x250mm side fans that can be controlled by buttons on the side cover. I think I may have replaced one of these fans a few years back. Otherwise, this case has served me well for ... probably ... at least 5 new system upgrades.
I just bought this card, the ASUS TUF Gaming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 OC Edition 12GB Graphics Card, because I realized GPU prices are now going down so I didn't exactly pull the trigger on the Zotac one I put in the thread, aaaand I got a great deal on it (1600 CAD brand new, now just waiting for the heatsink and it to arrive, the motherboard too, they keep delaying them dunno why) :
Thanks man, this punches above the regular 3080 and below the 3080 Ti, when the 4000 series comes out I might replace it eventually with one of those. Nah, scratch that, I'll wait until the RTX 5000 series comes out. Edit: Mobo just arrived!
