I only have an Athlon 500 with 1/2 gig of RAM and SBlive and seem to be able to get down to 10ms latency for most apps and plugins apart from the more CPU intensive ones like Reaktor where its best to go up a notch to avoid clicks. Are there any tips for getting even better performance out of my KX drivers or is this the best I should expect?

10ms sounds very good to me for such a system :) Without upgrading your CPU, you won't get any better, I don't think.

there is varied response depending on how you are taxing the cpu.

    I have a p4 2.4 ghz with 512megs of ram.

i can use 5.33ms for standalone software synths, and even the 2.33, but as soon as you begin adding a bunch of samples or taxing the cpu I begin to get crackles.

On my system its working best with the 10.66ms setting

    hi,
if you use winxp, then set it to "background services" under workplace.

and you get stable 2.33ms with a p4

Yeah, 10ms for a 500 athlon sounds pretty good to me!

Anyway, go here for the definitive guide to tweaking xp for music:
