To Catalyst Crew. Ugly theatre mode since 5.11.

    Hi,

    I've tried to contact ATI on the catalyst crew feedback support on their site for the 5.11 and after about a month, I'm still waiting an answer (great customer support ...).
    I've made the same few minues ago for the 5.12 version. And I'll made it each new drivers versions until I got a response (and I hope a fix).




    I (and a lot of people) think the new forced 720x576 video mode in theater mode is just nothing but awfull. Especially in PAL.
    Why don't you let the choice to the user ?
    I (and a lot of people) *really* prefer the old theater mode, I mean I could set the resolution I want (1024x768 for exemple) and check overscan. As we do with _ALL_ catalyst before 5.11 in fact ... And it was really perfect.




    I think since nvidia introduce post 3x.xx drivers and their awfull tvout support, your way to manage the tvout was superior by far.
    Now, since 5.11 in theater mode , it's impossible in PAL to get decent result, and NTSC doesn't convince me. At least with nvidia, we could manage a pretty good result with a bit of work.
    Tvout is really important for me (as much as 3d performance) and so I'm still with 5.10.

    In the recent past, I've got a 9700pro, a 9800pro, a x800xtpe and I'm affraid if this issue will not be solved, the x800 will be my last ATI graphic card.




    Hoping an answer this time ...

    I hope too. I have ATI cards since the Rage Pro but this problem would convict me to buy next graphic cards from Nvidia, for example...

    Overlay Theater Mode Enhancement

    ATI Catalyst® 5.11 introduces an enhancement to Overlay Theater Mode. Overlay Theater Mode will allow for video mode to enabled automatically when a TV is connected as a secondary display device. Enabling video mode automatically sets the display to 720x480 and improves the video playback on standard Televisions

    It's not "Enhancement" ! We can't adjust height and width in this mode ! Let users chose !

    ATI get the best TV Output, since 5.11 this is the worst.

    Developers are paid by Nvidia in order to mildew drivers ?

    All people using TV Output will buy Nvidia for their next card if you don't remove that... :w00t:

    Same problem for me, with a x800xl sapphire, since the 5.11 i can't update my drivers because of your new theater mode (the forced mode on my 4/3 tv give an ugly quality to the image, before with the 5.10 the ratio was respected).
    I would like that you introduce a choice for the user, to switch between the old mode (with the 5.10, without forced mode) and the new one (for users who enjoy it).
    I hope the next release will integrate this new feature, because like dwarfy, tv out is very important for me.

    I already gave you an answer, I just cant be specific on which driver it will be fixed on since im under NDA.

    I'll put 2 and 2 together for them, we are at catalyst 5.13, the beta would be 5.14, so I'm guessing 5.14

    the next is cat 6, usually it would go from 5.12 to 6, but this time cat felt like releasing one for whatever reason.
