Valley Benchmark is a new GPU stress-testing tool from the developers of the very popular and highly acclaimed Heaven Benchmark. The forest-covered valley surrounded by vast mountains amazes with its scale from a bird's-eye view and is extremely detailed down to every leaf and flower petal. This non-synthetic benchmark powered by the state-of-the art UNIGINE Engine showcases a comprehensive set of cutting-edge graphics technologies with a dynamic environment and fully interactive modes available to the end user.

Has anyone else given this a whirl?

I stuck graphics on high with 2xAA, and dropped down into the first-person walk mode, and you can adjust the wind and rain and time of day, and the environment is so huge and it's all just

They say that graphics don't make a game, but with zero storytelling or gameplay mechanics, this is a pretty damn compelling experience.

    Cool, Mig. :)

I was in a hurry earlier, so I've only given it a couple of benchmark runs, but I'll be sure to explore it a bit more. I love the looks and I appreciate how it allows for some enjoyable framerates despite that.

I've got a suggestion, how about we agree on a certain test setting, or two, so that we'd have a comparable set of results (which I might add into the first post for quick reference)?

I don't mean to turn this into a contest or an overly formal thread, so no mandatory verification screenshots or anything like that and posting scores achieved by using different settings would still be fine (and probably desirable in its own way), it would just be a way to get a slightly better perspective on how different cards perform in this test. :)

Feel free. As you might have guessed from my post above, I find this far more impressive as a spectacle than as a benchmark, but that doesn't mean it's without value as a benchmark :)

i just clicked the EXTREME HD option and it wouldn't allow anything else to be changed....

But i only have one complaint... Draw distance... it's killing the scenes.... seeing distant objects clearly "appear" out of thin air..

I was sure geometry instancing was created like 6+ years ago to remedy this.

Even just to have static geometry instancing in a very "sprite" like appearance just to keep the far off distance stuff sorted.

One of my complaints for skyrim... they imposed draw distance limits so foilage would suddenly appear.

They could REALLY do a lot better without killing fps.... i'm sure of it.

Pfft, Skyrim, you haven't played Assassin's Creed. In AC3, in addition to pop-in, they introduced pop-out! Talk about screwed up draw distance.

At least Valley is fairly nice to look at to have running even if it's light on textures. Heaven never felt like anything but a tech demo in comparison. But someone should school these guys on triple buffering.

I've actually enjoyed viewing this Valley Benchmark a few times now. Just installed the latest 13.2 BETA6 drivers and decided to see how the ExtremeHD performed on my system...

I'm doing a bit of OC'ing on both the CPU and the GPU...not much, though.
