Source: ComputerWorld __________ Microsoft Corp. has failed to deliver on its promise of downloadable extras for the highest-priced version of Windows Vista, critics claim. Dubbed "Extras" and exclusive to Vista Ultimate, the downloads were touted before, at and after the launch as one of a handful of features that separated the $399 operating system from the $239 Home Premium. On Ultimate's marketing site, Microsoft currently says of Extras: "These cutting-edge programs, innovative services, and unique publications provide a richer computing experience for Windows Vista Ultimate users." Trouble is, according to critics like Scott Dunn, an editor with the popular "Windows Secrets" newsletter, Microsoft hasn't followed through. Since January, when Vista was released to consumers, no new finished Extra have been offered to Ultimate users.
We got texas holdem, and Dreamscene. Bitlocker was later included, but that was just pretty much an update/install that we had already paid for. Saying NO new extras is lieing, we did get something shortly after launch. Just nothing since then. I'm patient, it's only been 6 months.
We've had crap all, compared to what we were expecting, even dreamscene is a "preview" version. C'mon MS sort us out.
wtf is an 'expected extra'? :hmm: the point is that that ms said they were going ot deliver extra whatever to 'enrich' the ultimate experience. aside from the demos/updates at release there has been nothing in 6 months. to say ms has failed to deliver(again) is an understatement imo. dont expect much... but expect something. hell give us some porn links
I still don't see a point.... What extras are we oventually saposed to get, can anyone answer it, Aside from paying for the exclusives that MAY come at any moment in time, should be demand that we get them emediately or on set regular occurances... what's with being so impatient?
If your going to comment and attempt to atleast act like you know what your talking about, please for the love of god, learn how to spell first! Thanks Mr 19,000 posts!
People paid a hefty premium and those extras were certainly up on the product list. There aren't even any themes for Aero, right? Seems like a no brainer for extra content even to a user like me who doesn't use it.
judas, you sure you are not neon in disguise? your spelling & silly comments are very similar to his posts from back when.
Wtf, i'm asking a question, someone has yet to give me a straight answer, a link to the extras we were saposed to get.... I don't recall putting sarcasm at the end of my post here....
Yes some people actually buy software. Unlike you though since you can't: 1. Afford it. 2. Not intelligent enough to crack or have the hook up to find a decent cracked version.
since you are choosing to be obtuse(& it is a choice on your part), aside from the common knowledge that ms has said there will be 'extras' for ultimate there is this from ms home - no while there is no specific list aside from dreamscene(an unfinished product imo), & i dont know why you seem to be stuck on that, there is the mention of extras besides dreamscene. while i partially agree with you that 1/2 a year isnt that long, it is long enough for something to have happened. maybe if ms would give us some sort of clue as to what they have in mind we could better evaluate the amount of time involved. but since they choose not to it is hard not to get negative about the whole deal.
I'm just a positive thinking guy Dreamscene imo, is "fairly" done, the preview we got was with a single dreamscene background, then we ended up with 4 more to compliment it. IMO, looking back through the windows history, anything new like that tends to only have a few things to start with. Plus they've released information on way to make your own dreamscene backgrounds (which isn't ALL the difficult if you have the tools) and there are tons of different dreamscene backgrounds out there. I don't think it's any different then expecting MS to provide us with a ton of different themes, specially when there are groups out there already providing thousands of different themes for us. So imo, so far, MS has held up thier end of the bargain. They gave us texas holdem as well. While that is only 2 REAL things thus far, it's not a horrible start considering that i'd be more concerned with them working on the First Service Pack for vista then trying to come up with Extras. I'm Patient, and so far i just can't see any reason to be negative at this point. Sometimes the best things are left till last, and frankly, half finished stuff is kinda irritating to work with, more time spent coding and cleaning it up, the better we all are in the end.
Last I checked, the reason for buying Ultimate was to get the Media Center capabilites of Home Premium along with the multithreading [more then 2] capabilities of Business. If anybody was paying $500 for an OS on account of wanting a schwanky screen saver and a few card games, I feel rather bad for them.
Ok, my view: Microsoft did bad because they broke their promises BUT, I'm 99% sure that noone would had noticed it first place. Someone was thinking behind the PC watching porn and suddenly he figured that if M$ delivered porn downloader as Vista Ultimate extra, it would kick ass and then he realised that there had been no updates for long time. If it wouldn't had been for that guy, we'd had never noticed it. 2c.
