    Voice Cancellation via AC97?

    Hei crew and others!
    Just one question, would it be possible to make some kind of application that will do "on the fly"-voice cancellation?
    I know with some soundcards (SIS among others) you can press a "button" and you will remove the whatever is in the center of the song (i think?), which will remove the vocals on the track.
    Would this be a possibility with the KX drivers?

    Of course you can use Soundforge to do it, but that's sort of a hassle.
    If anyone knows if this already exsists for the Creative cards/kx drivers, please let me know.

    Thnx!

    Jim

    Do you mean a "Vocal Remover"?
    If so, yes this is possible. I published one here;

    http://www.driverheaven.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17581&perpage=15&pagenumber=1
    (search there for my post dated Aug 23, 2003 07:25 AM)

    Although this code was meant as a 'crossfeed' plugin and therefore more "complicated",
    it can be set to function as a "vocal remover".
    This one has a nice feature in that you can hi/lowpas filter the crossfeed signals so
    you won't loose to much Bass (which is also mostly 'center' located).

    If you don't know how to use it (or how to register the code) just ask.

    Here's what I'll do;
    -I will write a .kxl version of the plugin to make it more user friendly,
    and add some basic Presets. (this may take a few days)

    -after that, I'll explain it's usage if neccesary.

    Meanwhile I suggest you learn yourself the basics of the 'kX DSP Window' if you haven't done so already.
    You'll need those anyway if you want to profit from kX's 'true power'.

    Btw; a better name for such effect is 'Stereo Image Proccesor'.

    (Max, Eugene,.. Could you move this thread to the DSP section please?)

    Ahh,..sorry I still have no time to dll it, but the .da (Dane) version does the same.

    1. Download the zipped plugin here ( use "save target as";
    http://members.home.nl/nahutec/kxplugins/crossfeed.zip

    2. unzip 'Crossfeed.da' somewhere

    3. double click (or right click) on 'Crossfeed.da' ( the plugin will register itself in kX)

    4. In DSP window, now you can select/add 'Crossfeed' from the menu

    5. patch the plugin between Prolog's AC97 outputs and route were you normaly would.

    That's it.

    It's default is set to full "Vocal Remove" (Center remove) that is;
    - lopass is set to 100 ( passing all)
    - hipass is set 0 (paasing all)
    - cross(x)feed signal Phase is at 100 (inverted)
    - Dry_xFeed is at 50 ( meaning 50% Dry + 50% Phase inverted feed signal)

    It's operation is very simple;
    Feed an phase inverted portion of L into R, and R into L outputs.
    (see formentioned thread for more info)

    Of course this only works with Stereo Proccesed audio sources.
    Best result are with non-compressed Stereo Audio sources.
    Mp3's give less result because of their compression algoritmes which messes with the stereo field.

    Just play around with it.

    Have fun,

    /LeMury
