Except the Pioneer A09/109... it's flakey. Every Pioneer up to then has been amazing (I love my 108). However, as more firmware is released for the A09/109 the drive is getting better.. but way to slow for my taste. As for NEC, the 3530s are out now, so if you can get one that'd be my choice (until Pioneer straightens out), or at the very least the Liteon SOHW 1673 or LG 4163. -Tip
I got an Asus 16x DVD ROM drive a little while ago. Its the quietest optical drive I have ever had. This is the exact one I ordered: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-135-114&depa=0 -Yousaif-
Plextor, or LiteOn Plextor has always been hard to beat for quality, but they aren't the cheapest ones out there. LiteOn is the best 'bang for the buck', as they are a lot cheaper, and their quality isn't too shabby either.
Heres the list from the best to the least favorite but working.... IMO Pioneer BenQ Yamaha I/O Magic Lite On SONY LG Cisiro or other variants utterly bite. The being dvd reading abilities or burning abilities... They die quick to.
