HL's engine has issues with mny ATI cards, when 1.3 or 1.4 came out no ATI video card would work on opengl. in XP tries to force trueform fucking it up. and even with cat 3.4 it doesnt load very fast. if you could post a report from lets say powerstrip would be good.

if its a clean install I would look in the area of the sound card too. Try pulling the sound card completely out of your pc and then powering up. Fire up CS and see if it lasts longer than 2 seconds.

    re cs

Hi all i am totally new to these forums having recently got a new system with the 9700 pro in it. I would very much like to know if your soundcard was the issue as I am having porblems with random lockups in open gl playing CS. It can be anything from 10 secs into the game or it might last 2 hours then suddenly freeze.

I have an xp2600, 512m 333ns ddr memory, abit nf7-s mobo, gigabyte maya II radeon 9700 pro, currently got an audigy 1 will be swapping it for an audigy 2 this weekend. 500watt dual fan psu.Running XP pro with the omega drivers latest version.

I have tried all sorts from lowering the agp to 4x turning fast writes off, ddc is off, using different refresh rates and I can only conclude it is either drivers (will be trying hte official ati ones instead)or the sound card locking the agp port up. I had this beofre where i had a usb dsl modem and on my older pc acpi was sharing irq's for the sound card, agp and usb and it was getting off the usb modem to an ethernet based one that solved the problem of lockups at the time. On this newer system all irq's seem to be independent so I have no idea why its happening all over again

So I shall see whether the audigy 2 makes a difference and may well try it myself in uninstallling hte sound card and taking it out completely to see if it solves lock ups.

If anyone can shed any further light on this problem I'd be very greatful, thanks in advance
I will also post my results if successful on what works for me here so fingers xxx cos this is one annoying fault :(
Other than that it runs like a dream and I am very happy with its performance in being able ot max everyhting and still get top fps with out it barely flickering on net graph no matter how much is on the screen at any time.

    Glen
