Re: Win one of three ATI 5750's @ Driverheaven!

Gareth Thomas has been working for Codemasters for approximately 9 years. Evidently, it's a rather good company to work for as people have a tendency to work a few years, get bored then move onto another job. 7 years is, by what I've seen, can be a long time to work for a single company unless you're in management (or something along those lines). Either that or it pays pretty well. I'd like to have an enjoyable job that pays well (though I'd imagine pretty much anyone would).

According to Gareth DirectX 11 is better than DirectX 9. Really though, I'd be worried if he'd said that DirectX 9 was better, partly because DirectX 11 is two versions ahead of DirectX 9 (in which case you should expect improvements all round, more so as it was two versions rather than one) and partly because he would be advertising for DirectX 11. If you're trying to persuade someone to invest in a new graphics card and get a new game you really don't want to be saying "this game is good but the technology that was used isn't as good as the technology used in older games from a few years ago".

AMD did indeed supply hardware to Codemasters for Colin McRae Dirt 2. It's a good business venture as AMD can advertise "we can guarantee our hardware works flawlessly with this game because it was used in its development".

AMD were also on-site to assist Codemasters as they undoubtedly wanted to ensure full compatibilities with their hardware, at least that is what I assume.

DirectX 11 helps with the loading times of CM Dirt 2 because they have multi-threaded device support so that they can load and create resources on different threads. CPU threads allow processors to execute sequential or simultaneous actions and with the latest multi-threading technology it's going to shine with the more modern processors, utilising more of its potential. With older games a faster processor generally results in a faster gaming performance but the games don't necessarily use the processors' full potential. However, specifically calling to the CPU for multi-threading makes better use of the processors' capabilities.

Re: Win one of three ATI 5750's @ Driverheaven!

Gareth Thomas worked for Codemasters for almost five years, Gareth says DX11 API is much better than DX 9.
In the very early stage of Dirt 2 project, AMD did supplied hardware to Codemasters for Dirt 2 Development.
AMD were on site to help Dirt 2 team, this enabled the team to easier implement their decisions. DX11 did gives Dirt 2 faster loading time.
