Is there a huge difference in sound quality between the latest winamp and the latest Microsoft Media Player for XP, bearing in mind I am using the DFX plugin for both....

    Thanks

i have winamp 5.04(not the latest) and use ti to play MP3s, simply because my media library crashes any programs I've tried other then winamp ;)

but as far as I know they both process sound the same way/same codecs...so it should sound the same.

As for DFX, I prefer my EAX settings, personally

winamp is better. less bloated, doesnt scan your MP3s and send "anonymous" usage data to the man...and in general is just prettier(takes less screen realestate too!)

I stopped using it in favor if iTunes recently simply because im going to be buying an ipod soon...but then right after I did the total switch, there came an ipod plugin for winamp(GRRRRR)

WMP10 has better video quality, but winAMP5 runs videos better on older computers. I can run hi-res divx stuff on my AMD 333mhz fairly well with winamp, whereas all other video players just wont play it in any viewable way.

that being said, if you have a half-decent computer this really isnt an issue.

There isnt any differance in audio quality if u dont mess with the DSP"equalizer" on winamp but if you do it tends to decodes the audio better then Media Player compaird to its equalizer.

So basicly no not any differance besides the DSP but id use winamp sence its far faster then media player.

I would use WMP if it had a better way to search for mp3s. So i stick with winamp for mp3s, WMP for everything else. Although Winamp is buggy, sometimes it won't respond, and i always have one song blacked out on my playlist, that wont go away. And sometimes when i open Winamp. a Second EQ pops up on my second monitor, and wont go away until i close all of winamp.

Media Jukebox 8 simple because everything else seems cheap, and hampered by comparison. I use Zoom Pro for video.

Don't use either for music; I'm a foobar user. Out of the 2 though, I like winamp better. Sound quality is the same on all programs for me.

i like WMP, used it ever since version 7 on my RC Win ME setup in 2000

it's search function is pretty useful too when seraching the library, i use that every so often, but i mainly like the library function, and the task bar mode

Prefer and have been using WMP over Winamp for years now. WMP stores and lists playlists exactly how I like them to be. Whereas winamp would have a tendency to put an mp3 into another playlist(album listings ect) that didnt belong there. That and its convenient to reload playlists after a format, just drop Playlists into My music an blam reloads the paths to the mp3s on the other HDD :)
