winzip 9 beta 1 is available at winzip.com
Does it provide features or compression even comperable to winRAR?
one of the new features is encription, only used winrar once, could be worth a download to try,it,s an evaluation version.
Thanks for the news guy.
Does it finally have compression that's at least remotely as good as cab?
nope.... compression is still ZIP... not even as good as RAR
So even with the long time it took them after 8.0 was released, they still didn't manage to do any halfway decent compression scheme? How pitiful...
WinZIP isnt about high compression... They are all about ease of use. Zip has its place, but ultra high compression just isnt it. Want ultra high compression... look to ACE, RAR, or stuff-it

 Good joke... but that's about it. There's a great lot of freeware programs out there that have a vastly improved "ease of use" and also much more functionality.

Nope. Why should I use some scawny proprietary formats? Eww... :bleh: Take cab, it has great compression (often better than rar and ace), and it's free and comes with Windows, without anyone having to install some freaky programs for it.
everyone's personol preference differs from the rest
Winara still is my first choice...
I still prefer Winrar and the built in unizpper in WinXP.
