Site: Paleo Entertainment (watch the video) Screenshots Paleo Entertainment IGN: Merchants of Brooklyn -- Volume 1 (Merchants of Brooklyn -- Vol. 1) Crap game based on Cry2 engine . I can't believe that cry2 engine looks that shitty :dead:
Looks like they set themselves a 10mb texture limit for the entire game, looks horrid. not sure what's going on there!
They tried to make a game on CryEngine2 that won't bring every graphics card known to man to it's knees? It looks like cell shading. It also looks like something that came from PS2. Is CryEngine2 that cheap to license, or do these guys have way more money than talent?
I don't think it looks that bad, it's a different style. A little more polishing and it might look good. But don't start about the gameplay...
Well, I'd be proud if it were my work, considering my expertize in 3D graphics, but... There are some really ugly models in there, some extremely low res textures, and I'd say that the lighting is not that good either. Here's a scene with a room lighted like a Christmas tree, yet there's no light at all on that huge thing in the middle or the player (similar things can be noticed in some other screen-shots): http://www.paleoent.com/images/screenshots/shots/shot12.jpg And this is just plain ugly: http://www.paleoent.com/images/screenshots/shots/shot07.jpg So why the state of the art engine? EDIT: Replaced screenshots with links because they were too big. EDIT 2: If it were a beta, I'd cut them some slack, but this game was released two days ago. Looking at those shots it's hard to believe that the same engine that was used to produce this was employed.
Maybe, there is a limitation on the licensed engine. Or they just wanted to have some fame by building such game on a high_end engine. Honestly guys even L4D which is on HL2 engine looks better than that. Edit : Shacksnews review http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/57721 Edit2: The game is PC exclusive like crysis
Very similar in quality to the early builds of Crysis that were released as a tech demo... kind of similar almost cell shading effects in both too... http://ati.amd.com/gitg/promotions/crytek/images/Demo19.jpg Might give the game a quick look, not sure if the website has screenshots of the final build...
so I guess I am the only one that thinks this game looks great. Too bad about the (reported in forums) bugs.
Blue, I like it too.. It's somewhat in the Incredibles / pencilart kinda style, which isn't too bad...
after watching that video i have a couple of thoughts one: it's not crysis level graphis, but that doesn't seem the be the goal here - looks to be a more anime/cartoon style game, a little different from the current trend of ultra-realistic-you-can-see-the-hair-up-my-nose style graphics that most developers are trying for - so i don't really see anything wrong with it two: it does look kind of fun - if the manage to fix the bugs being reported, i might pick up a copy
Well, you never know how good a game is until you play it, and even the graphics seemed somewhat better in the video footage than in the screen-shots (though there were some really low res textures and a couple of other things; I noticed that they deliberately went for some non-photorealistic rendering so I'm not holding that against them) so for 16e maybe we shouldn't be too harsh. After all, not every game allows you to bash your enemies like that and rip their limbs of! EDIT: Man, this game has it all! :w00t:
Come on guys, its a little harsh. I think the game obvioulsy isnt intended to look ultra realisitc like Far Cry 2. Looks like they are going for the style that was used in XIII back on the PS2, which was Awesome! Yeah its not the best looking game on the planet, but CryEngine2, isnt exactly the best engine either. Maybe this game will actually work without feeling like a powerpoint for the large part of PC owners aswell. Added note: Graphics are overrated, some of the bets games ive played, in terms of fun, playablity and what not, have pants graphics by todays standards. And maybe wernt even tat good back then. Play it before you judge it guys
i liked the trailer myself. and like dj_stick and IvanV have said, i like the non-ultra realistic route theywent with this game. i like the cartoony polished look to it. the story line though...i'd have to play the demo before i'll tell you what i REALLY think, lol.
well i thought the trailer was not that bad, i think the reason someone might not like the game is that the developers did not take the "totally realistic graphics" rout and opted for a more cartoon like feel to it .
if the gameplay is good... it has the potential to be far better then farcry and anything game that uses the crysis engine put together
I read somewhere yesterday that the "final" build released via Steam was actually an alpha build which has been subsiquently fixed. Not sure if this effects the graphics but the reported bugs are much less rampant.
I agree with you that the storyline in Crysis and Farcry 2 wasn't solid , FC 1 was awesome in this point (I love you Ubisoft Anyway it is totally unclear why they released it so fast :hmm: Alpha build of Merchants of Brooklyn accidentally released as final game
