I have my system water cooled. And I have a moded X18 on my 1900XT and it runs awesome. 735x1750 and doesn't break 50 degrees C
Yes, it's loud. But it's extremely effective. Just stick your hand down the rear of the case FWIW, my vf700-cu wouldn't fit on the X1900XT cause of the shim. It kept slidin' around. Also, that acelero blows the air directly on your mobo. Supposeably we'll be getting a new Zalman vf900-cu with heatpipes. I just hope it has a raised core area like the stock fan. I dont' wanna remove my shimmmmy!!!!
"Once you've had a quiet but powerful computer you'll never go back" <- so true! Zalman VF700 wont do the job of cooling a X1900.. The cooler has to be better than the stockcooler to be quieter.. The vf700 isnt better than ATI's stock dual slot cooler. But it's better that the 7800GTX stock, which is why it cools better and is quieter.. i spoke with a reviewer from hardware-test.dk about x1900 in CF, he said they were louder than a tubine-jetengine. 7800gtx "burns" 94watt. X1900xtx does 120watt. <-- 27% more!!
I went back to a loud PC after a relatively quiet and good performing one so its not always true Re: VF700, you'd have to see results to say its not good enough. They work well enough to drop temperatures on an X850XTPE which is the same design as the X1900XTX cooler. Its just the card pushes out more heat. I think it'd work well enough at 100% and even n 100% my VF700 is quiet
Ive just got 2 X1900XT's in my crossfire setup & i dont think there that noisy even when playing games, my pc's in my bedroom & i sleep real well eveynight. If you have a totally silent system you may hear them but they aint loud.
This looks like a good thread for this info... Well this one fit. Not perfect, a small amount of wiggle room. But the contact was def there when I removed the heatsink. Here's my results... -default clocks on X1900XT -1 run through 06 -ambient 22c Biggest difference here's the 11c jump on the Zalman. Perhaps once the AS5 settles it might go down a few c, but it's still a huge spike in temps. Especially considering this was done with stock volts and clocks. BUTT...and this is a big one. I can think again. The stock fan was GOD awful loud. We're back to the chipset fan being the loudest component again. It's only been on the Zalman for an hour, but I'll take the higher temps (resulting clock-block) over that ridiculous mouse being chopped up in my case!
Yes, the X1x00 series card are very noisy and by far the loudest thing in my PC. One is aggravating and two are just unbearable imo. Of course everyone is different and what is loud to me is just a whisper to another
Well you see, my system is faster than urs and g35x's but it's quiter... Trust me, I want speed and I want silence and both are possible... The venus from thermaltake doesn't have any heatpipes for example and mine has 4 which means I can run the fan at 2000RPM and benifit from a silent Heatsink and the same temps as you Honestly, my CPU never goes over 50 and my GPU never over 60 (in summer). And hell, they are powerful components (OCed P4 3GHZ) and X850XT PE...
I have the x1900XTX from sapphire, I am happy with this card other than having to run the 5.13 Cat drivers, and I cannot use a 64 bit OS as no driver I have found would load on the 64 Bit OS. As to cooling, I have been water cooling for a couple of years and with good parts leaking has never been a concern, I use both passive and active cooling in my setup now. Zalman Reservator for passive cooling and reservoir 250 Gallon per Hour pond pump for flow Black Ice micro with 2X80mm Fans for active cooling Zalman Block for Cpu/Chipset Thermaltake Block for Gpu Pics here http://members.cox.net/linflas/ System specs: Asus A8N-E Mobo AMD X2 4400 OC'd @2.6gHz Prime95 Torture tested x 24 hours Corsair XMS twinx 2048-3200 @ 238mhz Sapphire X1900XTX with Cat 5.13 standard clocks for now until better driver support Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS Gamer Raid0 2X74gB WD Raptor 10000 rpm drives WD 300 GB ATA storage Seagate SATA 200GB storage Samsung Syncmaster 242mp Display
you know sandok, for what its worth, im running my venus 12 at about 2000rpms right now. my current cpu temp is 28C, i max out at 48C on 90 degree days in the middle of summer. highs right now are 43C. so needless to say, the case is incredibly quiet.
Well I dunno about you but g35x said he ran it on full... And that ain't quiet I'm just giving an example that you can have a good system that's cool yet fast. You're a perfect example Thank you
Oh, I'm quiet over here. But the load temps can hit 86c with 3d2k3's nature demo running full bore @ 1600x1200, 4xAA, 16xAS...
....i know the x850xt pe is better not gona argue there but im gona have to say my opty kicks the p4....intel and amd ghz difference and i have my opteron at 2.8ghz..... also i dont care about my 5800rpm......just wana make sure its cool im sure 2000rpm works just fine..... have headphones on anyway
True but I'm just saying you COULD do it silently too mate But if you got headphones, tis not that important
How hot do these cards run? I'm getting one real soon right now i have a x800xtpe and it runs at 50c full load and 35c idle. Will this x1900xtx run hotter then that?
same here cant hear anything at all with my headphones on,also have a few case fans......kinda funny tho kuz i got an ati silencer for the x800xl and i really dont even know how silent it is because even the cpu fan at 2000rpm is louder =D
FULL? Mine's at 12% of maximum output (that's how the vid card is) and whenver I boot up the PC, I can hear it quite well as it speeds up to 100%... And you know what, I still find my PC too loud
